About a week ago, I was driving home from a neighboring state. It is no secret, and you may have witnessed this, people move from one lane to another. In fact, people go around others for various reasons.
I lost count of drivers who decided to go around me. I started thinking maybe I was going “too slow” for them. The sign said “55 MPH” I was driving precisely 55 MPH. I immediately started to wonder how fast they could possibly be going. That reminded me of a friend of mine, who always drove fast and said, “I am not speeding, I simply am flying low”.
The maximum speed limit is the maximum speed allowed and enforced by law in, specific area, under specific circumstances. For example: If a posted speed limit is 65 MPH, that is the maximum speed limit a driver is allowed to drive his/her vehicle, given “perfect” circumstances. However, that said speed limit, in the example the 65 MPH, is subject to many factors, for instance, if there are constructions on the road, or if it is a rainy day, the speed limit should be adjusted accordingly.
The definition of speeding is not only driving beyond and speed limit, but drivers’ behavior on the road can also fit under the definition of speeding, it includes, driving recklessly under the given street conditions.
There are legal consequences for driving beyond the speed limit, there are also consequences for driving too fast if the street conditions do not allow it.
For example, a speed ticket will be issued, there are consequences for multiple speed tickets. Other than legal consequences, one should keep in mind that there are monetary consequences for failure to drive within the speed limit, as well as damages to the vehicle, insurance rates might be increased as a result of receiving multiple speeding tickets.
Most importantly, speeding could result in accidents, and damages to other people’s property, and may, in some cases, result in loss of life.
Posted speed limits are important to follow, they have been determined by engineering, by street type, by the area one is driving in, and most importantly they are enforced by law.
My advice is to follow the rules, follow the posted speed limit, take into consideration the road conditions, drive safely, and stay safe.
